Kinda Fonda Syd

Why hasn't Syd Barrett got a spider named after him too?

Inspired by this fab mix of Pip's, I've given this mixwit thing a go, and have put together some of my fave Syd songs for you. (Oh, and the last song is not Syd, but I really like it anyway.) Just for the record, the only post-Syd Pink Floyd I like is the "Wish you were Here" album.

Today's instalment of "on my desk"

This morning I stopped off to post a parcel to Brown Owl before work (Pip, I sent it via Mikes, hope it gets there okay) and to collect my mail. Which is why there's a couple of fun mail items on my desk today, and I also have a copy of Bruce Springsteen's '18 tracks' cd that I borrowed from the library last night. (For those who don't know, I love Broooce.)

Hurrah! New issue of Mixtape (and I'm there on page 4 along with a lot of other bloggy buddies saying what I love )...this issue has Vickie Howell (I think if I was a boy I'd want to marry her, she's the epitome of cute), a kewl article on making a mix tape (referencing 'High Fidelity' - one of my favourite movies evah!), GreenOlive's Crafty 101 which I've been enjoying heaps; and this issue also has my favourite cover artwork yet.

Thanks to the joy of blogging connections, Ms CurlyPops alerted me to the existence of PippiJoe's fabrics, so I had to get my grubby little mits on some. I think it will become something very special just for me, not sure what yet though.

Kirsty's attitude to op-shopping has inspired me of late. Sort of along the lines of "if you build it, they will come"...a couple of weeks ago I was thinking about this book, which I'd last read in HSC. It sat in my Fishpond cart for a while, waiting for me to find some money to complete the order. Then last week I found it at the Salvos oppy for 50 cents. So that's also kicking around on my desk too...it's peeking out on the left of this shot under the white envelope:

I bought the Jackie Davis 'HiFi Hammond' EP at the oppy on Monday for no reason other than I thought the cover was fab. I haven't played the rekkid yet, 'tis why it's kicking around still on my desk. The text on the back of the cover rates quoting:
"Man," says Jackie Davis, "I feel like I'm playing an orchestra!" And anyone
listening can readily understand. A Hammond electric organ is, technically
speaking, nothing more than a Hammond electric organ. But with Jackie Davis at
the keyboard, many unusual, sweet-sounding and full-swinging things begin to
happen.
Best I take this one home tonight and give it a spin, I could do with some full swinging things going on around my place...I can SO relate to Aunty Cookie's illustration in the new Mixtape, this last drawing made me laugh and laugh and laugh:

I'm exactly like that now, when I was younger I LOVED to see live bands, now, as much as I love the music, I'd like to be able to sit down, and am always craving a nice cup of tea by the end of the night. Hee. Always make time for Rockin' Out...whichever way you do it!

Glad it's only a video

I was listening to Emimem on the way to work this morning, and it reminded me of this video. This clip really makes me SAD as the house is so cute, and looks like the sorta house I'd live in if I didn't have HP (aka Mr Stitchy) to demand some masculinity in the decor. As I said, I'm rather relieved that this isn't for real!
