Here's my on my desk pic from yesterday, which I didn't get a chance to post, as I went to work, then went to Geelong and back, and then fell asleep on the couch at 10pm.
What have I got kicking about?

• new arrival in the post on Tuesday - the I Can Has Cheezburger book. Kitteh goodness!
• a cd from Kitty Kaboodle for 62 Cherry's Summer CD swap
• my groovy notebook that I made at the Kuties Red Hill Road Trip day last Sunday - I am rather proud of it...a nice Kutie donated the record cover, and I love it!
• rosettes that I bought from Belsize Square's Etsy, I plan to wear them on Cup Day

Today's desk

On my desk today is a little bundle of goodness that came to me via here. My order was lovingly wrapped in a piece of Aunty Cookie chicken fabric... Oh joy! A rabbit brooch, a ballerina purse. And also included some extra little pressies. (The love hearts lollies are still there from Knicker Day.) The keychain has a vintage kiddies' book picture of an ostrich on it, which is also rather chicken-esque. And one of the items is a pressie for a friend, one is a pressie for me. Hooray!

On my desk today

I seem to have gotten into the habit of checking the PO box on Wednesdays before work, which works out well actually, because it always provides me with good stuff for my desk top. On my desk today:

• vintage embroidery patterns via Etsy -hurrah! I'll put the Walker's one on Stitchybritches soon I think,

• some of yesterday's op-shopping - '70's writing set (I had a few of these as a kid, and loved them), shoulder strap retainers, and Sarah Kay 21st birthday invitations (I don't actually know what I'm going to do with them, but I loved Sarah Kay as a kid, and they were only 50 cents)


• a tea towel that's part of a pressie from Jess, and


• a baby birds book that I found in the Warragul op-shop last week. I love wee birdies!

As I'm not at work to show you my usual desk mess, here's a pic I took before of my desk in the lounge room. It used house my laptop and study stuff when I was doing my diploma, but now that studying is a distant memory, it's the catch-all for books, notepaper, business cards, keys and the mail. Mr Lobster is visiting, he usually lives on my dashboard. There's a collection of Girl Guide books, owlies, and vintage novels. And my (still working) bakelite telephone.

On my desk is a bit late this week, mainly because I haven't been at my desk. So on my desk today is some fun things from yesterday:

• Magazine love : new copy of Ready Made, and my first ever copy of Marie-Claire Idees...I finally found it at Borders and can see why everyone raves about it!
• A tube of recycled chinese newspaper pencils from Smiggle. I have a thing about pencils, love them!
• Japanese Milky candy, I went to buy White Rabbit yesterday and the shop had none left, so I got these, super yummy, and almost worth buying for the cute box alone!
• Goodness from the Hokey shop - Kitty hair clips (the other one is in my hair) and some super cute stickers. Thanks Hollie!

Is lots of lovely mail, mostly Spring/Summer swap cds. . And some patterns from Pip, and a vintage card I found at the oppy on Monday (which I'll scan as an embroidery pattern I think). Hurrah! So much listening fun! And sorry Gemma, but that "here comes the sun" print is going straight to a frame, so I'll have to doctor the cd cover. Hee!

Today's on my desk is all about embroidery, as I'm going to Craftea Chat tonight and we're stitching. The Sublime patterned librarian bag is a WIP for my friend Krista (who's a librarian) and the cigar box that the floss is in came from my Grandma. I've also go the gorgeous pencil case that Christie gave me as part of my Mixtogether pressie (using Lara Cameron fabric!) and my quilt square for the Mixtogether quilt, which I've still gotta stitch up. My desk is not my usual desk, I'm in our city office today, so I'm at my "desk away from desk".

On my desk

On my desk today, a bit of Etsy shopping and some crochet. I checked the mailbox today and found some goodies that I'd bought - a vintage McCalls embroidery transfer pack, (dating from about the 20's I'd say), a little enamel pendant thingy with an owl on the front and a mirror on the back, a cushion cover made by this chick, (featuring fabrics by this chick and this chick) and my first square for a crocheted throw. I saw the pattern via this and wanted one of my own.

Today's desk was looking quite bare, until I stopped by the St Paul's op-shop as I walked back to work from the station. Here's my op-shop gatherings:



There's lots of odds and ends of light cotton material, a Butterick sewing pattern, a Hollie Hobbie mug that says "Love is the nicest gift of all", 3 issues of Golden Hands, some knitting patterns and wool bobbins; and books: 'The Wonder World of Nature' and the Australian Guide Handbook (which is the same edition as when I was a Guide). The nature book of course has owlies:

Also a rah-rah-rah hockey sticks novel that I only bought for the pretty cover really. The story starts with the schoolgirls crying because one of their teachers is leaving (I don't remember ever having a schoolgirl crush on a female teacher, let alone crying because one was leaving!) "Miss Lessing, the popular house mistress of the Middle House at St. Helen's School, was the last person she would have chosen as being likely to leave. Everyone knew, of course, that she was engaged to be married, and the general opinion was that the man was jolly lucky."

There's also a rather silly pulp romance novelette from the 60's (the bloke on the cover looks a dead ringer for JR Ewing) ...and of course, you want to know how this one ends, don't you:

Bernie's face went white. "Wh-what did you say?" she whispered.
"I said, 'will you marry me darling?' " he repeated, drawing her into his arms.
"Oh, Richard!" she said ecstatically, eyes shining.
"Is that all you can say" he murmured, putting his mouth within an inch of hers.
Bernie shook her head, and tears of happiness sparkled in her eyes.
"I can say 'Yes please, Richard', " she cried joyfully, and waited for him to kiss her. Which, without wasting any more time, he did. the end.

On my ears, desk and windowsill

Today's edition of Kirsty's "on my desk" (aka random pictures around my office as there's not much of interest on my desk today) .

I decided to show you my new earrings that I bought from the Design Market on Sunday (hello CurlyPops!) This is what happens the first try when Drewzel tries to take a photo of her new earrings:

And there's nothing like taking close up-ish photos of your face to convince you that you have freaky ears, and that your skin is a mess of spots, hair and wrinkles. *sigh*

Anyway...

On my ears today are my nice new earrings made by Victoria Mason. I'd been coveting some of these for ages (particularly the teabags) so I gave in and bought a pair. Victoria also had the cutest little birdy pendant that I mentally put on the Christmas list (yeah for me of course.)

I chose them individually, and decided on "a cup of tea and a Nice biscuit" because these are two things that make my world go round. (By the way are those biscuits called nice as in luverly or Nice as in Italy?)

Victoria's stall was lovely and I wanted to buy one of everything, but I'm very happy with my teacup and biccie. Pip and Angela were also there, being gorgeous. I tried to make off (well I did ask first) with one of the tin cans that Kirsty designed for her, as they looked fab, and of course I wanted one!

On my desk today:

General work stuff, a poor blackening banana, oppy owly mug, and another Sunday purchase, a handprinted fabric brooch from tu wit tu woo. One of the many cardigans I'm in the process of knitting calls for decorative brooch to fasten it, so I thought this one was just the trick.

Fabric on canvases by Lara and Bianca, who, incidentally, were also at the Design Market. Trying to add a bit of style to my messy old office. I think a clean up might be on the agenda this afternoon, once I've got all the urgent work out of the way.

On my desk this morning

...is a little pile of op-shopped books, they had been building up in the spare room at Mum's house, but as I had the car the other night, I brought them home with me.

The big book is some weird thing called "World Record News Sept 59-Feb 61" and is all the newsletters issued by the World Record Club for that period, lots of discussions on conductors and gramaphones, and it's all a bit crusty and non-interesting. But it appealed to me, so I grabbed it at the oppy. Also a nice "engine divided, warranted boxwood" ruler made by B.Smith and Sons Australia, that's divided into weirdy inch fractions that I have no idea about because I'm a metric gal. An early 60's poetry book with nice 2-colour illustrations for each poem, a '66 Bambi record with a very unstimulating story indeed, and my fave of the pile: 'Gardening Simplified', an Australian volume which I'm guessing dates from the late 1930's, given that the "Gay Sprinkler" company was purchased from Mrs CE Brickhill in 1935. Ah sprinklers, remember them?

On my desk : July 9th

My desk today is all about knitting, and tea. (Nothing really new there is there?)

There's a brochure for High Tea at the Owlie bookshop, and a copy of Vickie Howell's Knit Aid which I bought there on Monday. (My only criticism of this book is that while the drawings are cute and stylish, when it comes to illustrating a stitch, they aren't really that clear.) My local Spotlight is having a Knitting Party, with 15x15 cm squares for charity blankies required, so that's been keeping me out of trouble lately (although I should be working on my Tour de France Knit Along project). The fancy pants stitch at the front is just made by doing one row of yarn forward, knit two together and then a row of knit etc.

Today's desktop

...is a bit bare really. But what's there is rather important. You can see the finished back and sleeves of a cardi knitted by me out of Cleckheaton's Vintage Hues yarn (highly recommended I might add, fab colours and lovely to knit with. Just have to do the front sections and Bob's your proverbial. Also importantly sitting there, my diary and the flight bookings for my little holiday to Airlie Beach next week. The Knitting Knazi decided she needed a Winter Sojourn and invited me along. Hurrah!

Today finds a box of vintage embroidery thread that I picked up from the PO box today. I'd bought it on Etsy and forgotten all about it. A couple o' pressies for goodly people, a new notebook and pen from Kikki K (note: pen has an owl on it, notebook has a blank cover), vintage doiley from Friday's frifting, tea cup still there there from yesterday's cuppa, and some vintage playing cards that I dug out for some inspiration for my Bird Mad Girl arty fartiness.

On my desk this afternoon

Includes :
- lunchtime borrowing from local library - 3 copies of Make and a novel called 'Knitting'
- kitteh tin, used to hold Embassy toffees, now home to pins
- old Brownie handbook, quaint but not many good illustrations to show you
- info on what your car needs for a Roadworthy
- mini-quilt project using some Spotlight fabric and an old Australiana table cloth.

This week's "on my desk"

This week, on my desk is all about kneedles and knitting, and some little doileys that I've been carrying around in my bag since last week as a pressie for a nice chick. The vintage mags and patterns I bought for a dollar or so each on an online auction site - they just arrived in the mail, and the square of knitting is a surprise pressie from my workmate Frances. She was trying to explain to me - the Knitting Knovice - an easy way to make a blankie square or rug a couple of weeks ago...I must have looked at her blankly, as she wrote out the instructions for me. Bless her.

The eagle eyed amongst you will note a spec of choccy under one of the mushrooms on the doileys. This fell off my cardie when I stood up to take the pic, but has now been removed, no cardie, choccy or doiley was hurt in the process. (Although the choccy did fulfil it's destiny, that is, to end up in-mah-belly!)

On my desk today...

Today's edition of on my desk features more knitting (practising increases now), fruit, chicken cards, sheet music and yet more wool. And my Brownie uniform - being the nerd I am, I've embroidered badges for my "uniform" for my stitching and travel badges.

Here's a closer look (the white stuff is supposed to be air-fade pen, but I think I'll have to wash it off) :
They're stitched onto blank Guide Patrol Emblem badges, which I got from the Guides shop in Melbourne.

On my desk this arvo

Here's today's "on my desk" bathed in afternoon sunlight. As I've been working in the city the past couple of days, the stuff is bits and bobs culled from my handbag this morning.

So we have:
- Judy Blume book from the op-shop bought on Monday
- postcard from friends currently holidaying in Japan, was in the mailbox yesterday
- i-pod in Pelorian kitteh pouch
- Doodle books bought from the super-talented Kitty
- free postcards from the State Library
- Brown Owls guestbook page from Monday
- little pressies from Laura: fabric, Lush bubble bar, and wee paper kitties (there was also Haigh's choccy frogs, and some Japanese toe socks, but they went into action last night.)
- Avon mascara still in box with pretty packaging.

My office gets the afternoon sun, which makes taking decent photos on my desk quite difficult. But it's a lovely sunny afternoon, and has been a beautiful Autumn day.
